LEXUS P

Who is Lexus P?

What if Lauryn Hill and Nas had a baby? What if that baby went to go live with Kanye West until eventually moving to England and becoming a fan of Grime, Gorillaz, Badu and Buju Banton?..

Meet Lexus P and his U.K hip hop inspired sound blended with heavy RNB, Neo soul and reggae!

With “The MisEducation of Lauryn Hill, “Late Registration” by Kanye West and “Inna Heights ” by Buju Banton being his favourite albums of all time, his mission is to continue in the footsteps of soulful hip hop and push this sound within the uk scene whilst adding a sprinkle of that Caribbean essence that represents his roots.

LEXUS P ANNOUNCES NEW PROJECT LEX EDUCATION

Lexus P turns lived experience into lessons on love, self-worth and relationships on his new project, Lex Education.

Bristol based artist Lexus P presents Lex Education, a deeply personal project blending hip-hop, neo-soul and R&B with a touch of grime, while exploring the different ways love shapes us — from self-love and romance to heartbreak, vulnerability and the relationships we build with others.

The title Lex Education captures the idea at the heart of the project: taking lessons Lex has learned through his own experiences and translating them into music that others can connect with and potentially learn from themselves.

Across the project, love appears in different forms. “Crazy” centres on self-love and finding a sense of worth that isn't dependent on external validation. “Runaway” looks at loving others and the similarities between the people growing up within the same generation, while “Just Love” explores the ups and downs of relationships and how arguments and difficult moments can sometimes be misdirected expressions of love.

“On My Way” moves into a more intimate space, built around romantic and sensual love, while “Retreat” explores vulnerability and why both men and women can hold back from fully expressing love when doing so means risking heartbreak.

AN EDUCATION IN SOUND

“Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is my favourite album of all time, and Kanye’s Late Registration and The College Dropout are also very high up on my list. The similarity for me is that soul-meets-hip-hop sound. I love the way both artists use old soul and R&B influences over hip-hop drums. Once I realised this was the sound I was leaning towards, it definitely influenced the education theme behind the title.” Lexus P

Wretch 32 has also been an important influence on Lex as a rapper, particularly his smooth delivery and clarity. For Lex, that style of rap naturally complements the soulful production running through the project.

The sound itself, however, has been developing long before Lex Education had a name.

Lex's godbrother McCoy Sway is the main producer behind “Just Love”, “On My Way” and “Con-sign”. The two have known each other their entire lives and began making music together as teenagers.

“I always say the statement, ‘he knew me before I knew me,’ because he’s slightly older than me and I’ve known him my whole life.”

Towards the end of school and into their college years, the pair began making music together regularly. When Lex eventually built a studio at his mum's house, it became the place where they could properly develop their shared sound — a blend of hip-hop, neo-soul and R&B with a touch of grime that they had been experimenting with throughout their teens.

THE COLLABORATORS BEHIND LEX EDUCATION

Producer Wilfy D plays a particularly important role on the project, producing both “Crazy” and “Retreat” — essentially starting and finishing Lex Education alongside Lex — as well as mixing “Crazy”.

Their relationship began indirectly. Lex initially met Wilfy's brother Patch de Salis, who was filming one of his music videos. Lex and Patch quickly became close friends, connecting creatively but also realising that they aligned beyond music. Through spending time with Patch and regularly being around their family home, Lex met Wilfy and developed another friendship that extended far beyond simply working together.

Wilf quickly understood the sound Lex was trying to create. The result was “Crazy” — a track that has since become Lex's go-to song whenever somebody asks him for one example that represents what his music sounds like.

Then there's Jabani, who Lex describes simply as a “multitalented, multifaceted wizard.”

Jabani is the main mix engineer across the project, mixing “Retreat”, “On My Way” and “Runaway”, while also contributing production elements to “Runaway” and “Retreat”. Lex immediately recognised that Jabani's ear and mixing style could complement the kind of music he was making. When the final tracks needed completing, he brought Jabani back in — and his contribution ultimately went beyond mixing into helping shape the production itself.

Naame.Naame is the main producer behind “Runaway”, with Lex and Jabani building additional production around his original beat. Unlike some of the long-standing relationships behind the record, their connection began online. After seeing the freestyles, short-form music videos and other content Lex had been releasing, Naame.Naame reached out to him on Instagram and sent over a beat pack. Inside it was the beat that would become “Runaway”. The collaboration has continued, with Lex already working on another of his productions.

The vocal collaborations tell their own stories.

Vierz sings the chorus on “Crazy”, after Lex heard him on a track he'd made with Patch and felt his voice was exactly what the hook needed.

Lex's cousin Nahs Spncr sings the hook on “Just Love”. The two didn't grow up together and only discovered their shared musical connection after Lex's mum and auntie separately sent him a video of an artist they wanted him to hear. Lex replied that she was incredible — only to then be told the singer was his cousin. They connected as family first, before their mutual love of music eventually led to the collaboration.

Asher Simmons sings the hook on “Retreat” and contributes backing vocals to “Runaway”. While searching for a very particular voice for “Retreat”, Lex described the sound he wanted to his manager as somewhere between Lucky Daye and Frank Ocean. His manager played him Asher's track “Jireh”, and they immediately knew he had the tone they were looking for.

Marnz appears on “On My Way”. Lex had originally met her at an event where she was performing live and was immediately impressed by her voice. After seeing her perform several more times, the opportunity to work together came when Lex and McCoy felt “On My Way” needed additional female vocals to complete its R&B feel. Marnz was the natural choice. The resulting session became one of the easiest Lex had conducted — helped by what he describes as a shared perfectionist streak.

Guitarist Raph brings another part of Lex's life into the record. The pair originally met as colleagues through youth work, running studio sessions for young people together. Lex knew Raph as an accomplished guitarist who often preferred to stay behind the scenes. As Lex Education neared completion, he realised several tracks could benefit from live guitar and brought Raph into the studio. In a single session, he played across “Crazy”, “Runaway” and “Retreat”.

Their collaboration has since moved beyond the studio, with Lex and Raph performing some of those same tracks together live.

RECORDED AT HOME

Every vocal on the project was recorded inside Lex's childhood home.

After spending several years living in London, Lex returned home and told his mum he planned to build or rent a music studio. She suggested something closer to home: converting the garage, which had largely become unused storage space.

What followed became a family project.

After discovering that a radio station in Weston was closing, Lex's mum found an advert selling materials from its soundproofed rooms. The materials had originally cost the station more than £10,000, but after joining the auction when the bidding was still only a few hundred pounds, the family eventually secured everything for just under £500.

There was one catch: they had to travel to Weston and carefully dismantle the room themselves.

Lex, his mum, his cousin and a family friend made the trip, took everything apart and transported the materials home. Lex, his cousin and their family friend then used them to build the studio.

After meticulously researching equipment, Lex sourced the remaining pieces he needed, including the Adam A7X monitors that became his choice after testing different speakers.

That converted garage would eventually become the place where Lex Education took shape.

For an EP centred around lessons drawn from love, relationships and lived experience, recording it in the childhood home that held so many of those memories gives the project another layer of meaning.

THE RECORDING RITUAL

Working from his own studio also gave Lex the freedom to become meticulous about his vocals.

At some point during the recording process, he noticed that he preferred how his voice sounded immediately after waking up. His voice subtly changed throughout the day, particularly after speaking or eating, so he began deliberately recording first thing in the morning.

It developed into something of a ritual.

On recording mornings, Lex would barely speak, stay off his phone and avoid eating until his vocals were finished.

Recording himself also allowed him to obsess over individual performances. Rather than settling for an early take, he would sometimes loop a section and record 10–20 takes in succession, find the strongest one or two, work out exactly why those performances stood out, and then go back in for another 10–20 attempts using them as the “takes to beat.”

That same approach extended to the vocalists appearing across the project, with Lex encouraging his collaborators to work through variations and performances until they found the right take.

FROM THE HOME STUDIO TO THE STAGE

Lex Education arrives as Lex continues to establish himself within Bristol's live music landscape.

In June 2026, he performed at The Canteen on Stokes Croft as part of the launch of the independent label he is signed to, PMG Records.

That was followed by a performance at FORWARDS Festival on in August 2026, appearing on the Hip Hop Garden stage and taking the music created inside his childhood home onto one of Bristol's major festival stages.

Ultimately, Lex Education isn't about Lex presenting himself as someone with all the answers. It's about documenting what he has learned so far and translating those experiences into something another person might recognise within their own life.

As one of his friends once told him:

“You make music like you love and care about the people that will end up listening to it.”

With Lex Education, that sentiment sits at the centre of the project.
